The fascination of miniature trees will be celebrated when the Columbus Bonsai Society presents their annual show, a yearly tradition for more than half a century. The Bonsai Society is an educational and social organization for those interested in the classic Japanese form of horticulture, and presents a show each year as a means of educating the public about the art form.
This year the bonsai club will partner with The Central Ohio Ohara Ikebana to present in depth introductions to two venerable Japanese horticultural arts: the cultivation of miniature trees and traditional flower arrangements during the two-day event.
During the two-day event club members will display many examples of the miniature trees they have patiently trained and nurtured. In addition to the formal bonsai presented in traditional Japanese manner, a separate section of “Trees in Training” will present a more relaxed, informative and interactive way for event attendees to understand the techniques used to create and care for bonsai.
Demonstrations of bonsai care & styling techniques will be given at each day of the show. Presentations are open to all and suitable for all audiences-no special knowledge needed. Questions from the audience are welcome. Guided tours of the exhibits will be offered each day
Vendors will be on hand selling finished bonsai as well as plant material, tools and other supplies for bonsai work. Vendors will be leading workshops, so attendees may be able to take home an example of bonsai art they have created.
Admission to the CBS Bonsai Show is free. Ample parking is available near the event on surface lots at no charge.
A complete schedule of demonstrations, workshops and other activities will be posted on the Club’s Facebook group and the Club website. Schedules will be updated as events are firmed up.
